Testing Week Recap - October 2023

Firstly, a huge well done to all 60+ of you that rocked up on Monday and Tuesday to testing and gave it your all. Loads of amazing lifts and cardio efforts were done and everyone smashed it!

Testing is a great way to look at our all around physical ability and gives us a great starting point to grow and improve on week by week. It allows the coaches to know a bit more about what you can do and help us prescribe weights and paces throughout our sessions.

It also gives you a chance to re-test and understand how our methodology helps us to get stronger and fitter.

Our five blocks took us through a well rounded test.

Strength Tests

For our strength tests, we performed a Back Squat to test our lower body strength output, and a Strict Overhead Press to test our upper body strength. Strength training is the foundation of what we do at Patch for its huge health benefits and is a big focus in our Small Group Personal training sessions.

Aerobic Test

The row allowed us to test our mental strength alongside our aerobic capacity. This is a good view of our lung capacity and cardio fitness. We train this in our Finishers, our higher volume PT sessions, and during Burn sessions.

Anaerobic Test

The devil’s chariot A.K.A the Assault Bike helped us learn about our lactic acid levels by looking at our power production for a short burst. We use this type of output in our Burn Sessions, Super Saturdays, and Hybrid sessions.

Strength Endurance Test

The Inverted Row was to see our pulling endurance using our upper back and keep our core tight and under control. This is extra relevant to our middle blocks in our Small Group Personal Training sessions where we get our volume in relation to strength training.

How To Understand Your Results

One thing to note is that we can’t be our very best every day or peak always when needed. So if you weren’t where you wanted to be, that’s okay! There is always another session and another week to go again!

With the Winter Kickstart Challenge beginning Monday 23rd October, it’s a great time to know where we are. If we stay consistent over the next few months, it’s going to provide a great platform to improve on all of our strength and fitness tests when we re-test in the New Year.
